Historic Architecture
On the roof of Sapporo Mitsukoshi is the little-known Mimeguri Jinja Shrine, which has deep connections to the Mitsukoshi name going back to the Edo period.
The left side enshrines Uga no mitama no mikoto, and the right enshrines Daikokuten, and regular visitors are welcome from spring into autumn.

Sapporo Mitsukoshi is located in Minami 1‑jo Nishi 3‑chome, in the heart of Sapporo’s busiest shopping district, at the intersection of Sapporo Ichibangai and Yonbangai.
This area was once known as the most valuable land in Hokkaido, and its exceptional location speaks for itself—just a short walk to Odori Park and the TV Tower, and close to Susukino, making it ideal for sightseeing and shopping.
The store consists of the Main Building and North Building, and is directly connected to Odori Subway Station, allowing comfortable access even on snowy or rainy days—one of the unique conveniences of Hokkaido.
History
In 1972, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Mitsukoshi’s founding, a replica of the iconic lion statue from the Nihombashi Main Store was installed, and it remains a beloved symbol of Sapporo Mitsukoshi today.
In 2011, Sapporo Marui Imai Co., Ltd. merged with Mitsukoshi to form Sapporo Marui Mitsukoshi Co., Ltd., marking a new beginning.
Today, as part of the Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings Group, it continues to operate as one of Hokkaido’s leading department stores.
