A popular sightseeing spot is Akan in Hokkaido for those coming over from many countries to enjoy Mashu Akan National Park. The center is former Old Akan. It is currently Kushiro City in the Akan district, a place with Akanko Onsen.
The Akanko Onsen bus terminal (BT) is connected to many buses including buses from Kushiro Station, Kushiro Airport, as well as buses that run between Asahikawa Station in the north of Hokkaido to Sounkyo Onsen, buses from the bus terminal of Obihiro Station in the east of Hokkaido, buses from Sapporo Station, buses from Kitami, and more.

In 1934, the first national park in Japan was established in the Akan district. After that the Mashu Akan national park that became the standard for national parks of Japan. Since then, 80 have been established.
It has been protected, and these natural environments have been kept in good condition all the time by local people.
There is no artificial sightseeing in Akan. Everything receives the benefit of the magnificent nature, and the Lake Akan area stands as a center of the sightseeing for the East Hokkaido district.
At Akan Onsen there is the natural monument marimo lake moss, Lake Akan sightseeing, the Ainu village where you can learn about the Ainu civilization, and the Bokke walk where you can observe volcanic activity.
Additionally, you can observe Japanese cranes which are natural monuments.There is the canoe experience in the national park, lakeside camping, as well as activities on the ice covered winter lake, that all deliver the experience of the air and water of the Akan district.
