About the Venue

Sapporo Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium

In 1972, the Sapporo Olympic jumping competitions were held here. It is now one of the world's leading ski jumping venues and is designated as a FIS World Cup venue. Summer jumping competitions can be held in the summer as well. It is a popular venue for athletes jumping toward the city of Sapporo. The longest unbeaten time on the K123 large hill was 148.5m by Polish skier Kamil Stoch. This is a prestigious stadium that has produced many international athletes. Inside the stadium, it is a popular tourist spot for visitors to take a lift ride to look down from the starting point, enjoy the view of the city, experience winter sports such as jumping at the Olympic Museum, learn about Olympic history, eat at the restaurants, and buy souvenirs. In addition, the night view from the Okurayama Observatory has been recognized as a "Japan Night View Heritage (Natural Night View Heritage). In addition to the winter season when the evening and night views can be enjoyed, the observatory lift is open at night until 9:00 p.m. several times a year for a limited period of time.

What kind of competition is jumping?
Flying beautifully and over great distances.
In this competition, skaters glide from the top of thein-run toward the take-off table, and compete for the beauty of their aerial posture and landing after launching into the air = flying style points and distance points. In a nutshell, the score is based on how beautifully the skier flies. There are detailed rules to prevent unfairness, such as the adjustment of the starting point, the size of skis, and the size of jumpsuits, weather conditions (wind and snow) on the day of the competition, and the differences in the size of the competitors.

Rules

Within 1.45 of the athlete’s height
Suit size rule: maximum difference from body in upright position for both men and women is within 1-3 cm for men and 2-4 cm for women.
If this is exceeded, the competitor may be disqualified for violation of the regulations.

Starting gate : Starting point
In-run : sloped path to speed up
Take-off table : the jumping point
Landing area : area for landing
Landing points = Point P (Mt. Okura standard point 100m), Point K (Mt. Okura scale point 123m)
Out-run :area to slow down and stop

Approximate value of how many meters can be flown; K90 is the maximum flight of 90m jumps = hill size

The longest unbroken distance on the jumps.

Distance from the tip of the take-off table to the point of safe landing
4 types according to the distance of the jump platform
Small Hill K20-K49
Medium Hill K50-K84

Normal Hill K85-K109 (Miyanomori Shanze K90 /max slope 36 degrees)
Large Hill K110-K184 (Okurayama Shanze K123/max slope 35 degrees, longest 134m)
*Kamil Stoch (Poland) 148.5m (Okurayama Shanze Bakken record)
Flying Hill K185 and above
*Schanze is the German word for jumps.

Flying points (total points of the middle three judges omitting the top and bottom of the A-E judges)
Total score of 3 out of 3 with a maximum score of 20 points per person.
Distance points + wind points (tailwind/headwind) + starting position points (high/low)
Okurayama is K120m, so 60 points are awarded for 120m. 1.8 points are added and subtracted for 1m.
Adjustment points for differences in approach length due to weather conditions.
The total points of one flying type + distance points are competed for the total points of the two competitions.
